Univention Bugzilla – Bug 49705
Recommend "Debian" installation profile instead of "Other Linux" for VMWare ESXi
Last modified: 2023-07-11 10:38:29 CEST
The manual still says in https://docs.software-univention.de/manual-4.4.html#installation:vmware that "Other Linux" should be used instead of "Debian". Given that this requirement dates back to 2013 (see bug 31085) it may well be that this statement is deprecated and should be removed. as a reference, the paedML-Linux requirements are: - ESXi 6.5 or later - vmxNet3 (instead of e1000) - profile "Debian 9 (64Bit)"
still unchanged in https://docs.software-univention.de/manual/5.0/de/installation.html#installation-in-vmware
The manual says that the "Debian" profile can't be used for UCS, although it's based on Debian. I assume, this rationale is no longer valid. Besides the customer reference, have you made practical experience with VMware ESXi and running UCS as role "Debian"?
From the recommendation given at the bug, I changed the text accordingly. 9ada9345ff | Bug #49705: Change VMWare role recommendation to Debian 20eba25c56 | Bug #49705: Update German translation about VMware installation Separate approval by QA contact on merge request.
