Description Christina Scheinig univentionstaff 2020-01-09 17:07:04 CET
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #39203 +++

The UMC module is missing a detailed description for sambaValidUsers and sambaInvalidUsers:

udm shares/share
...
  Samba permissions:
...
sambaValidUsers (samba) Valid users or groups
sambaInvalidUsers (samba) Invalid users or groups

<http://docs.univention.de/manual-4.0.html#idp14257568> Table 11.4. 'Samba permissions' tab (advanced settings) has this valuable hint, which should be available from UMC inline:

> The entries are to be separated by spaces. The special characters @, + and & can be used in connection with the group name for assigning certain permissions to the users of the stated group for accessing the Samba share:
> * A name beginning with the character @ will first be interpreted as a NIS Netgroup. Should no NIS Netgroup of this name be found, the name will be considered as a UNIX group.
> * A name beginning with the character + will be exclusively considered as a UNIX group, a name beginning with the character & will be exclusively considered as a NIS Netgroup.
> * A name beginning with the characters +&, will first be interpreted as a UNIX group. Should no UNIX group of this name be found, the name will be considered as a NIS Netgroup. The characters &+ as the beginning of a name correspond to the character @.

A customer has trouble with this issue in UCS 4.4 adding a share. This resulted in longer time and effort in support.
Comment 1 Florian Best univentionstaff 2022-04-26 18:20:10 CEST
Added a lot of long descriptions for various shares/share properties including sambaValidUsers and sambaInvalidUsers in the MR https://git.knut.univention.de/univention/ucs/-/merge_requests/360.
