... as this would IMHO be a bit more obvious and it seems to be more standard with, e.g., web sites.

This would require changes in repo-ng and the App Center as it is assumed that all meta files are called "%(component_id)s.%(extension)s". Changing this may lead to subtle bugs. As I do not see any advantage other than a the App Center cache being more standard with web sited, I will close this bug as WONTFIX. Feel free to reopen
