AWS Image out of memory after system setup
Last modified: 2021-05-14 16:33:56 CEST
When starting our community AWS Image as a small image, the system is out of memory after the system setup. Consequently, no UMC operations work and neither does rebooting from the CLI or the UMC the system. The only option is to stop the image and restart it. Afterward, the image works without any issue. For the test, no additional software was installed on the image during the system setup. Keeping in mind, that the free tire is the small image, I would guess, that it affects a considerable number of AWS users.
t2.small or t2.micro/nano ? https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/
Partner noted it fro t2.micro and t2.small I only verified it for t2.small t2.nano is untested
Afaics, he t2.small/micro provide 2GB RAM. This should be sufficient to install UCS with some selected components. Unfortionately a firefox instance is started in the images, which is never used. Maybe an approach is to not start firefox. An idea is to pop up a warning when too less RAM is available. → The appcenter has information about how much RAM the components need. Another idea is to not show the software components list. → doesn't fix the problem if no software is selected at all, as reported.
This issue has been filed against UCS 4.3. UCS 4.3 is out of maintenance and many UCS components have changed in later releases. Thus, this issue is now being closed. If this issue still occurs in newer UCS versions, please use "Clone this bug" or reopen it and update the UCS version. In this case please provide detailed information on how this issue is affecting you.
