According to a recent conversation with a customer it is not obvious that univention-domain-join-cli has some options, e.g. to specify a dedicated DC to use.
https://github.com/univention/univention-domain-join/blob/master/README.md should at least mention that there are options which can be seen by running 

univention-domain-join-cli --help
