Try to create a "Teachers and staff" user, and choose a already used user name. Click save. The error message says:

"Benutzername: Ein Wechsel der Benutzerrolle wird nicht unterstützt. Lehrer demo_teacher kann kein Lehrer und Mitarbeiter werden."

This message is also shown when the language is set to English.

I would have expected a "username is already taken" message.
