Univention Bugzilla – Bug 38957
Univention Apps and first steps
Last modified: 2016-08-03 15:56:27 CEST
It should be possible for an ISV to add first step informations: FIRST_STEPS_{DE,EN}. Maybe we can simply use the existing README_POST_INSTALL files? Anyway, these informations should be shown during the Univention Apps setup process or at the end of the process or on the welcome screen or at the first UMC login.
Another piece of text that needs to be clarified on the system activation: * Instead of "App provider" we should say the name of the provider (e.g., "ownCloud"). * It would be nice to clearly state what kind of license it is that one needs to upload. There is a danger that it is confused with an app license, e.g.: > "A license file has been sent by Univention to xyz@abc.de. This file is needed > to activate the system in order to recieve updates for the operating system > or install other apps.
Created attachment 7433 [details] Mockup of the appliance category in UMC overview Attached the current mockup screenshot of the UMC overview page and the appliance category with the first steps hint. The hint would be only visible for the appliance category.

On login the first steps will be shown on the appliance category r 67870 univention-app-appliance-branding (0.2.2-3)
The first steps aren't shown immediately after login. If you change the category before they are shown they will be displayed on the category you switched to.
A link to /ucs-overview is currently missing.
Translations are currently missing for the appliance category, as well.

We (Dirk and me) decided that the most sensible way for information about the first steps would be to use the README file. Any other information which has the character of "further information" (e.g., additional information about licensing, installation of other packages, updates etc.) should be put into the long description in order to allow users to see this information at any time (also prior installing the app). The README file will then be displayed primarily after an installation and should only show information which is of interest in order to put the app into operation (e.g., how to create users, how to access the web interface).
In the current state, the first steps are working. One last thing to do would be to optimize the speed with which the info box is shown in the UMC overview page. Currently, this may take up to 5sec. univention-app-appliance-branding (0.2.2-19): r67819 | Bug #38957: Adjusted styling r67816 | Bug #38957: Added stylus file and adapted template r67808 | Bug #38957: Added conffile for modules/appliance.xml
univention-app-appliance-branding (0.2.2-19): r68339 | Bug #38957: speed up the loading of the first steps
Would it possible, to add the following paragraph by default at the beginning of the README file: "Welcome to Univention Management Console (UMC)! It is the web interface to manage this appliance. UMC is provided by Univention Corporate Server, the platform on which <applianceName> is running on."
univention-app-appliance-branding (0.2.2-23): r68456 | Added a static header to the first steps; update old symlinks
Little suggestion for rewording the German phrase: "Willkommen auf Univention Management Console (UMC), die Administrationsoberfläche Ihrer Appliance. UMC wird zur Verfügung gestellt von Univention Corporate Server, der Plattform auf der %s läuft." ... maybe accordingly in English: "Welcome to Univention Management Console (UMC), the administration interface for your appliance. [...]"
univention-app-appliance-branding (0.2.2-25): r68512 | Bug #38957: changed text in the first steps header
OK: First steps are displayed via README files OK: appliance category OK: translations OK: YAML info: source package was renamed to univention-app-appliance Verified
