Description Michael Grandjean univentionstaff 2017-05-04 10:48:04 CEST
Canonical offers the "Ubuntu LTS enablement stacks" (also called HWE or Hardware Enablement) that provide newer kernel and X support for existing Ubuntu LTS releases. We should consider to integrate those into UCC.

E.g. for 16.04, this would upgrade the kernel from 4.4 to 4.8.

This was introduced in Ubuntu 16.04.2: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/RollingLTSEnablementStack

The hwe packages are the new default that is shipped with Ubuntu desktop ISOs

For testing, the following can be executed on a UCC 3 desktop:

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
