Description Michael Grandjean univentionstaff 2018-07-16 15:30:44 CEST
We should have an information during the installation process that show which UCS version we are installing right now. This could be either in

- GRUB
- Debian installer
- UCS System Setup

... or even in all of them. Maybe we could extend the Univention logos to also contain the UCS version number.

Background: Today I installed half a dozen of UCS systems as virtual machines. They were pre-configured with the UCS 4.3-1 ISO by the customer but because of App dependencies we needed to start with UCS 4.2-4. In some cases, the hypervisor did not commit the change from the 4.3-1 ISO to the 4.2-4 ISO and we ended up with some 4.3 systems. The difference between 4.2 and 4.3 during installation is quite subtle (e.g. interface names are different, root password can be shown in cleartext). It would have been great if the installer showed us the version right after booting the VM.

should be still relevant for UCS 4.4
