In Bug #55269 we introduced a fallback UCR variable 'directory/manager/user/group-memberships-via-memberof'=false in case customers have problems with the use of the memberOf overlay module.
We never received feedback that this was used.
It was marked as deprecated for UCS 5.1.
So we should remove it by reverting git:c30da519e1155f2a071c1596b4b3247ea3c78fbc.
