Description Mathieu Simon 2013-04-09 23:48:20 CEST
Most Linux/BSD assume the BIOS time being in UTC, unlike OS from a Redmond. Currently UCS installer does not provide an option to tell the system that its BIOS is not going to be in UTC time. (which is what i.e. the Debian installer provides)

This can become an issue for Windows/Linux dual boot systems or i.e. UCS as Hyper-V guest (in case it's VM time provider is disabled or is not working)

Hyper-V always provides guest's BIOS time in local time at boot.
I ran into an issue with this when a couple of services had authentication problems after a fresh install of a DC master inside Hyper-V guest. Nagios mumbled about failed join_status checks

Guessing: Certificates were generated in future since the installer was assuming system time = BIOS + local zone Europe/Zurich + Summer time = 2h in future.

The manual fix was to set time manually during install on console (or temporarily rely on host time provider) and after the first boot editing "/etc/default/rcS" by changing parameter UTC to "UTC=no", afterwards syncing NTP at boot was also far quicker since there was not 1-2h drift to fix at every bootup.

We should check this when we switch to the Debian installer: Bug #30547.

DI with both squeeze and wheezy installer definitely does provide such this option, if you plan switching to DI anyway as described in Bug #30547, the problem should be automagically get resolved. :-)

This issue has been filed against UCS 3. UCS 3 is out of the normal maintenance and many UCS components have vastly changed in UCS 4.

If this issue is still valid, please change the version to a newer UCS version otherwise this issue will be automatically closed in the next weeks.

This issue has been filed against UCS 3.1.

UCS 3.1 is out of maintenance and many UCS components have vastly changed in later releases. Thus, this issue is now being closed.

If this issue still occurs in newer UCS versions, please use "Clone this bug" or reopen this issue. In this case please provide detailed information on how this issue is affecting you.
