Univention Bugzilla – Bug 31247
Increased loading and reaction times with default KDE wallpaper using XRDP
Last modified: 2014-01-02 10:10:48 CET
Noticed in a customer's environment. When connecting to an XRDP server on a UCC system, not all screen resolutions offer the standard UCC background and fall back to the default KDE wallpaper which increases loading times and reaction times to mouse/keyboard input. The initial drawing of the desktop takes up to 30 seconds with the default KDE wallpaper, switching tabs in the K-menu can take up to 45 seconds, selecting an entry is not always recognized and must be clicked several times. The following screen resolutions are tested to provide the default UCC wallpaper: 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 1366x768 1920x1080 The following screen resolutions are tested to provide the default KDE wallpaper: 1152x864 1280x960 1280x720 1680x1050 A workaround is to set the desktop background to a static color (white or black).
A new version of XRDP and xfreerdp has been announced in ucc-cool-solutions which enables jpeg-compression both on server and client side. The documentation has been started here: http://wiki.univention.de/index.php?title=FreeRDP_on_UCC As this Bug was the starting point I'd "use" it to enhance the documentation and "QA" it. Timo, please enhance/change the documentation: - XRDP and xfreerdp should be documented on separate pages, therefore http://wiki.univention.de/index.php?title=Xrdp_for_UCC_terminal_servers already exists (the link included in "FreeRDP on UCC" doesn't work) - please add more context: what are those new versions good for, what's the difference to "normal" versions in UCS - add an additional warning about the "Alpha"-state of the used upstream code - add examples for using xfreerdp with the new command line options
Edited the article "FreeRDP on UCC": - Removed XRDP server paragraph - Added main difference between cool solution build and stable build from UCS/UCC - Added examples for the command-line syntax Still open is the update on the XRDP article.
Both pages are edited according to QA notes. Changes on "Xrdp for UCC terminal servers": - Changed Cool Solution disclaimer from UCS 3.x to UCC 1 - Added note about alpha-state of the XRDP server - Included a link to the How-To UCC 1.0 to inlcude the repository
