Univention Bugzilla – Bug 31690
Installer help for netbios name restriction is a bit misleading
Last modified: 2020-07-03 20:54:47 CEST
A customer reported that the Installer help for the netbios name restriction is a bit misleading: The customer entered quite a long FQDN for the master and the installer derived the windows/domain from it, which incidentally was longer than 15 characters. The error message lead him to think that the netbios hostname itself was too long. Two things could be done here: a) make the automatically proposed windows/domain trunkaded to conform to the currently required UCS limit. b) improve the error message.
This issue has been filed against UCS 3. UCS 3 is out of the normal maintenance and many UCS components have vastly changed in UCS 4. If this issue is still valid, please change the version to a newer UCS version otherwise this issue will be automatically closed in the next weeks.
We received a similar feedback (Ticket #2017060721000236): -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FEEDBACK: Die Installation einer Samba-basierten AD-Domäne ist holprig. Die Vorschlagswerte für Default-Namen/FQDNs sind m.E. wenig hilfreich, die Einbettung in den Kontekt der unterschiedlichen Bezeichner ist nicht vorhanden (FQDN vs. Realm vs. Netbios). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This issue has been filed against UCS 4.2. UCS 4.2 is out of maintenance and many UCS components have changed in later releases. Thus, this issue is now being closed. If this issue still occurs in newer UCS versions, please use "Clone this bug" or reopen it and update the UCS version. In this case please provide detailed information on how this issue is affecting you.
