Univention Bugzilla – Bug 31783
Switch to Kernel 3.5 and more recent Xorg
Last modified: 2023-06-28 10:33:10 CEST
Since 12.04.2 Ubuntu contains a newer kernel (3.5). The default images should use the newer kernel.
These days the kernel and Xorg are tightly coupled. As such we need to update the X stack as well: xserver-xorg-lts-quantal is the meta package for that.
the new meta-packages should be: linux-image-hwe-generic xserver-xorg-lts-quantal
mhm, there is also kernel 3.8 available, which is referred by the "linux-image-current-generic" meta-package. Packages would be: linux-image-current-generic xserver-xorg-lts-raring
Kernel 3.8 is now the official default: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/08/23/ubuntu-12-04-3-lts-released/
If one switches to a more recent kernel package (e.g. linux-image-generic-lts-quantal), it must be ensured that previously used meta package (i.e. either linux-image-generic or linux-image-generic-pae) is removed as well. Otherwise /usr/share/univention-corporate-client/apt-get-pre-invoke.d/univention-ucc-prune-old-kernel-packages cannot remove the last remaining 3.2 image.
(In reply to Ingo Steuwer from comment #4) > Kernel 3.8 is now the official default: > http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/08/23/ubuntu-12-04-3-lts-released/ for Kernel 3.8 one has to upgrade at least initramfs-tools (otherwise no PXE-Rollout possible): initramfs-tools (0.99ubuntu13.2) precise; urgency=low * Add nfsv3, nfsv4 and nfs_acl to the base modules to fix nfs booting with newer kernels.
