Univention Bugzilla – Bug 31888
Support XZ-compressed kernel images
Last modified: 2023-06-28 10:46:19 CEST
Our Xen lacks support for Xz-compressed kernel images. In Debian the standard kernel images are xz-compressed starting with Linux 3.6. For our upcoming 3.10 kernel we'll continue to use Gzip, but it would be useful to support this; otherwise current Debian testing and distributions using the Debian kernel cannot be booted in our Xen any longer (Ubuntu uses it's own kernel: I've checked Ubuntu 13.04 and it's using Gzip compression). In Debian XZ support was added to Xen in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=695056 In Xen upstream support was added in 4.1.5: http://www.xenproject.org/downloads/xen-archives/supported-xen-41-series/xen-415.html
Support for additional compression formats is appreciated, but we would still need to force Amazon to update its version pygrub, too, before we can switch from GIP to XZ. (good luck) <http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/UserProvidedkernels.html>
UCS-3.x is OoM. Xen is OoM.
