Description Philipp Hahn univentionstaff 2014-08-21 16:29:48 CEST
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #33844 +++
ext2 and ext3 file system modules are missing:
$ ls -1 ext*udeb
ext2-modules-3.10.0-ucs71-amd64-di_3.10.11-1.71.201407031558_amd64.udeb
ext3-modules-3.10.0-ucs71-amd64-di_3.10.11-1.71.201407031558_amd64.udeb
ext4-modules-3.10.0-ucs71-amd64-di_3.10.11-1.71.201407031558_amd64.udeb
ext4-modules-3.16-ucs78-amd64-di_3.16-1~exp1.78.201408210821_amd64.udeb

We either need to package those kernel modules as udebs again, or drop support for installing new UCS-4.0 systems using those (very) old file systems.

Using ext3 instead of ext4 has some small performance benefit, but otherwise I personally know of no good reason to still support ext[23].

r13466: Remove ext[23] support from d-i for now.

No need, this was in intentional change introduced in linux 3.11-1~exp1. The Debian kernel uses EXT4_USE_FOR_EXT23 in that version, so the ext4-modules udeb also handles ext2 and ext3 filesystems.

I just installed a system with kernel 3.16 with a ext2-/home/-partition and it showed no problems. → WORKSFORME
