Afaik this is a VNC issue. I assume you used a KVM virtual machine for your test/screenshot? Installations on 'real' hardware do have a nice UCC wallpaper instead of this broken background.

Problem seems to be the combination of KVM hypervisor, Ubuntu virtual machine and accessing it via VNC. Exists since raring (13.04) ...
