Univention Bugzilla – Bug 36991
Configuration of NetBIOS domain name
Last modified: 2022-04-20 23:45:59 CEST
At the moment, it is not possible to choose a NetBIOS domain name by the installer of UCS 4.0, as in UCS 3.2. In case, someone wants to use the Active Directory Connection for example, the user could get in trouble, if the NetBIOS domain name of the Windows domain is different from NetBIOS domain name automatically chosen by the UCS installer.

Remove errata status since we have a SDB article which describes how to change the NETBIOS domain: http://sdb.univention.de/1321
Requested once again: Ticket #2016091021000413.

This is asked from time to time in our user feedback.
Still with UCS 5.0 not possible. The system setup could simply show a field with the NetBios Name (UCRv windows/domain) (and also for the kerberos realm, Bug #26969, UCRv kerberos/realm). This could be by default hidden, like the proxy settings, so that new users don't get in touch with too much complexity. Every other server operating system (redhat, freeIPA, etc.) make this easily configurable.
Created attachment 10795 [details] Screenshot A patch is available in git:fbest/netbios-name-kerberos-realm. It adds the configuration of the NetBIOS name in system setup - by clicking on advanced settings.
