Univention Bugzilla – Bug 41285
Update Docker version
Last modified: 2016-09-21 21:51:22 CEST
Created attachment 7665 [details] Comparison of network performance The latest version of UCS (currently 4.1-2) ships Docker version 1.6.2. Currently the latest version of Docker is 1.11.1. The Docker version that UCS ships is missing several important features such as improved networking. Because of the old Docker version in UCS, I have to use Docker NAT to forward client requests which in some cases doubles the latency compared to native networking. I have attached a graph from a white paper by IBM that compares the performance between native, Docker NAT and KVM networking (full white paper here http://j.mp/1rRKpF5). The new networking features of Docker offer (in practice) as good performance as native networking stack. Needless to say, there are also many other improvements in the latest Docker version.
For instance, the command "docker network" is not available in Docker 1.6.2.
