Univention Bugzilla – Bug 42442
Package aware drivers not supported by Samba
Last modified: 2019-10-01 21:48:07 CEST
June/july microsoft shipped a security update that disabled the point-and-print feature for printer shares that are using a non-package-aware driver. AFAIK currently samba does not support package-aware drivers. Therefore customers are not able to configure their client to download required printer drivers and install them automatically on first use.
FYI: https://www.samba.org/~asn/2013-samba_printing.pdf Currently there is some work being done by Andreas Schneider (Redhat, Samba Team): https://git.samba.org/?p=asn/samba.git;a=commitdiff;h=ace9f78187875f74f61689f74d0850815f5bd416 in https://git.samba.org/?p=asn/samba.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/master-spoolss-driver-info-level-8 Reading between the lines this may indicate that this can be achieved with with the existing MS-RPRN implementation in Samba, which would be very fortunate.
OTOH Günther Deschner (Redhat, Samba Team) is currently implementing IRemotewinSpool which seems to lie at the heart of the MS-PAR protocol https://sambaxp.org/archive_data/SambaXP2010-DATA/Guenther_Deschner.pdf
This seems to be the branch: https://git.samba.org/?p=gd/samba/.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/master-par-ok

We should document how this is done. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 43252 ***
