Description Arvid Requate univentionstaff 2016-11-08 19:45:35 CET
Upstream Debian package version 4.0.2-6+deb7u7 fixes these issues:

This update drops many tools which are no longer supported upstream and which are affected by multiple memory corruption issues:
* bmp2tiff (CVE-2016-3619, CVE-2016-3620, CVE-2016-3621, CVE-2016-5319, CVE-2015-8668)
* gif2tiff (CVE-2016-3186, CVE-2016-5102)
* ras2tiff
* sgi2tiff
* sgisv
* ycbcr
* rgb2ycbcr (CVE-2016-3623, CVE-2016-3624)
* thumbnail (CVE-2016-3631, CVE-2016-3632, CVE-2016-3633, CVE-2016-3634, CVE-2016-8331)

This update also fixes the following issues:

* Multiple buffer overflows triggered through TIFFGetField() on unknown tags. Lacking an upstream fix, the list of known tags has been extended to cover all those that are in use by the TIFF tools (CVE-2014-8128, CVE-2015-7554, CVE-2016-5318)

* Heap based buffer overflow in tiff2pdf (CVE-2016-5652)

* Information leak in libtiff/tif_read.c. Fix out-of-bounds read on memory-mapped files in TIFFReadRawStrip1() and TIFFReadRawTile1() when stripoffset is beyond tmsize_t max value (CVE-2016-6223)
Comment 1 Arvid Requate univentionstaff 2016-12-05 12:37:29 CET

* libtiff heap overflow (CVE-2016-9273)
* libtiff/tif_dirread.c read outside buffer in _TIFFPrintField() (CVE-2016-9297)
* tiffcrop: heap buffer overflow via writeBufferToSeparateStrips (CVE-2016-9532)

* tif_predict.h and tif_predict.c in libtiff 4.0.6 have assertions that can lead to assertion failures in debug mode, or buffer overflows in release mode, when dealing with unusual tile size like YCbCr with subsampling. Reported as MSVR 35105, aka "Predictor heap-buffer-overflow." (CVE-2016-9535)
* tools/tiff2pdf.c in libtiff 4.0.6 has out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities in heap allocated buffers in t2p_process_jpeg_strip(). Reported as MSVR 35098, aka "t2p_process_jpeg_strip heap-buffer-overflow." (CVE-2016-9536)

* tools/tiffcrop.c in libtiff 4.0.6 reads an undefined buffer in readContigStripsIntoBuffer() because of a uint16 integer overflow. Reported as MSVR 35100. (CVE-2016-9538)
* tools/tiffcp.c in libtiff 4.0.6 has an out-of-bounds write on tiled images with odd tile width versus image width. Reported as MSVR 35103, aka "cpStripToTile heap-buffer-overflow." (CVE-2016-9540)

Comment 9 Arvid Requate univentionstaff 2017-10-17 12:35:25 CEST
4.0.2-6+deb7u16 fixes:

* There is a heap based buffer overflow in tools/tiff2pdf.c of LibTIFF 4.0.8 via a PlanarConfig=Contig image, which causes a more than one hundred bytes out-of-bounds write (related to the ZIPDecode function in tif_zip.c).
