Univention Bugzilla – Bug 44209
UEFI boot error: variable `prefix´ isn´t set.
Last modified: 2019-01-03 07:20:26 CET
I'm attempting to install UCS_4.1-4-amd64.iso from a USB stick on a Beelink Z83 II mini-PC. When booting from the USB stick, I get... Booting in insecure mode error: variable `prefix´ isn´t set. Loading step 1 ...followed by a grub prompt. Typing 'ls' at the prompt shows only... (proc) This is similar to bug 39009. I have tried removing /efi/boot from the ISO but the Beelink Z83 II cannot boot in legacy mode; UEFI cannot be disabled. The PC ignores the non-UEFI USB stick and boots from its hard drive. I have also tried booting with the 3.2-4 and 3.2-6 UEFI ISOs as mentioned in bug 39009 comment 3 and bug 39009 comment 1. In both cases, the USB stick was ignored and the PC booted from its hard drive, just as with the non-UEFI USB stick.
As a possible workaround, I tried installing UCS in a virtual machine and cloning its drive to the Beelink with CloneZilla. This didn't work; the Beelink boot now just takes me to an EFI shell. I'm not familiar with the EFI shell, so I don't know if there's anything else I can do at this point. I'm really eager to get this working. I'm currently using Zentyal on another Beelink Z83 II and want to replace it with UCS, as UCS is far superior.
This problem can be reproduced by attempting to install in a Generation 2 (UEFI) Hyper-V machine.
