Univention Bugzilla – Bug 45833
The welcome screen at the end of the system should be ended with Ctrl+q
Last modified: 2023-03-27 14:52:52 CEST
Every new UCS user has to go through the system setup. Starting with UCS from the ISO or a VM image, the users is displayed a screen with instructions for the next step after the setup is finished. Pressing any key make the instructions disappear and the user is left on the console, without any instructions, just a login screen. This can be very distracting. We know from numbers in October that we about 43% of users that started the system setup don't login to UMC successfully. Hypothesis: The press any key accidentally and miss the instructions. They don't know what to do next and abort the test.

Yes, we experienced this also in our usability studies. Especially if you use VirtualBox you cannot leave the window without pressing Ctrl-Alt, which closes the univention-welcome-screen.
@Jürn, Johannes: We spoked about it. If you could write a patch it would be great. Probably the best would be that the user must click escape / return to stop the welcome screen.
To make the QA easier, would it be enough to change this only in 4.3? WIP but it seems to work: https://git.knut.univention.de/univention/ucs/commit/ae8d062167177cbf3d8d6fec66715b3140277fce
