Univention Bugzilla – Bug 46201
samba-tool dbcheck ERROR: target DN is deleted for member in object
Last modified: 2024-03-07 12:55:49 CET
In some cases we (the support) are a little bit unclear about the output of samba-tool dbcheck. The question is, does every message shows a database inconsistency and does these issues need to be fixed or not? References of deleted objects are still shown. Is this a problem or a cosmetic issue? Bug #46197 points on this problem, too.
Specifically this bug is about this ERROR message: ========================================================================== ERROR: target DN is deleted for member in object CN=somegroup,CN=groups,DC=mydomain,DC=intranet Target GUID points at deleted DN cn=member1\0ADEL:12345678-1234-1234-1234-12345678890a,CN=Deleted Objects,DC=mydomain,DC=intranet Not removing Checked 1234 objects (1 errors) ========================================================================== From my experience I vaguely recall this to happen when a user gets deleted that is member of additional groups. As a first step we should try to reproduce this and see if both UCS 4.2 and 4.1 are affected. Bug 46197 will deal with the filtering of dbcheck "NOTE" messages in the output of the UMC "System Diagnostic" module.
This issue has been filed against UCS 4.2. UCS 4.2 is out of maintenance and many UCS components have changed in later releases. Thus, this issue is now being closed. If this issue still occurs in newer UCS versions, please use "Clone this bug" or reopen it and update the UCS version. In this case please provide detailed information on how this issue is affecting you.
Still occurs with UCS: 4.4-6 errata796
Still occurs with UCS: 5.0-2 errata425
Still occurs with UCS: 5.0-6 errata974
The customer has not yet observed any negative effects as a result, but the question that continues to arise is whether this occurrence of errors is "common" or there is something the customer/administrator could/should do differently to avoid those dbcheck warnings. Checked 99454 objects (1484 errors) Please use 'samba-tool dbcheck --fix' to fix 1484 errors "Is this abundance of warnings and errors actually normal or is it an indication that something is fundamentally wrong with the system?"
