Tested with one Windows Server 2008 R2 DC, Windows 7 client: Tt is possible to Succesfully takeover the AD Domain by following the instructions of the UMC AD-Takeover app. Tested by creating on user before the Takeover and see if it appears in the usermanagement in UMC and noticed as expected that the domain administrator password is taken from the AD Domain. Also created one User in the UMC after the takeover and checkt that the login is possible for this user in Win 7. Also tested the AD-Takeover with Windows 2012 DC and as expected the app still shows the message that this Version is not supported.
