Univention Bugzilla – Bug 56261
Univention app updates over the software update module
Last modified: 2023-07-05 12:18:30 CEST
It would be very helpful if there was a way to use the Software Update module to update only applications that do not have a button. When running the module, the system is checked for updates along with the application updates, but currently it is only possible to install the application updates along with the system update. A separate button just for the application updates would be very helpful for customers, they would appreciate this feature.
Which applications do you mean? e.g. "Active directory compatible domain controller (Samba 4)"? Software in UCS is either a docker container based app, a debian package created by univention, a debian package from the upstream debian release. We don't provide upstream debian package updates as errata - only if those are security updates. We provide them at many patchlebvel releases. Docker based apps are upgradeable via the appcenter and updater separately. We don't have a separate concept for debian-package based apps - they can depend on any univention debian package and therefore we must upgrade all at the same time. That's also the only way we can test it.

For a better understanding, i upload a screenshot. I don't mean debian packages, what i mean is a button for just update the installed apps from the appcenter. The screenshots shows, that app updates are available, but there are 2 ways to install this in the Web-Gui. 1. To install the newest releases for ucs, with them the app updates will installed too. 2. To update the several apps in the appcenter one after another and that is a awkward. It would be great, to have an extra button just for update the installed apps, without an ucs system update.
